Presently, there are more than 80 registered autoimmune disorders affecting various parts of the body. The word autoimmune means to “attack one-self”; it occurs when the thinks healthy tissue is foreign and invades the body, producing antibodies that fight against itself. This is known as “molecule mimicry” . If autoimmunity is in the joints, it can manifest as rheumatoid arthritis. If it is in the thyroid, it can be Hashimoto’s or Grave’s Disease. Psoriasis is caused by autoimmunity of the skin.
We do not know for sure what causes cells to turn on one another, but it is thought that there may be a genetic precursor , environmental factors or leaky gut that can act as triggers. Conventional treatment may include steroids and harsh pharmaceutical drugs. It is common for diet, lifestyle change or more natural alternatives like CBD to be overlooked.
